CBD - Arthritis & Pain Relief!

CBD - Arthritis & Pain Relief:

CBD interacts with the body via its endocannabinoid system, which modulates several processes in the body, including pain regulation, sleep cycle, inflammation, appetite, and immune system response among others.

There are many ways to take CBD, which is a matter of preference for each individual – whether you prefer oils, creams, capsules etc. Many individuals use CBD for pain relief and reducing inflammation. To read about the many ways to take CBD, click here.

Arthritis Pain Relief:

CBD has demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects in several inflammatory conditions, including arthritis. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD make it a great supplement for those with arthritis as it has been demonstrated to improve arthritic conditions as well as reducing pain. CBD possesses anti-arthritic activity and might ameliorate arthritis via targeting synovial fibroblasts under inflammatory conditions.

Sativex an oral spray which contains CBD, had been found to improve the condition of clients with arthritis. The study included a group of 37 individuals taking Sativex, which resulted in statistically significant improvements in pain during movement, pain at rest and quality of sleep. There was no effect on morning stiffness, although baseline scores were initially low, and adverse effects were also recorded as mild or moderate.

CBD has shown great promise in reducing pain and inflammation in preclinical models of arthritis; animal pain models had very promising results. The tests were carried out with a variety of dosages administered orally with only 5% using topicals. When administered alone, CBD produced significant pain inhibition in all models.

Muscular Pain:

Cannabis is frequently used by patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) for symptoms including muscle spasm and pain. In addition, an experimental model of MS using low doses of cannabinoids demonstrated tremor alleviation. Small clinical studies have confirmed the usefulness of THC as an analgesic; CBD and CBG also have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, indicating that there is scope for developing drugs which do not have the psychoactive properties of THC, while still containing CBD and CBG.

In 2018, CBD was removed from the prohibited substances list for athletes, meaning athletes now use CBD as part of their daily supplement intake to aid the recovery process. The anti-inflammatory properties found within CBD can help the muscles recovery quicker from delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS). The benefits of oils for people training cannot be understated. Topical creams are great for targeting a specific area, where muscles have been worked intensely which may allow them recover more effectively. CBD can be an efficient part of the recovery process.

Chronic Pain Management:

CBD binds to receptors in the ECS, along with naturally occurring endogenous signals produced by the body, this binding is linked to pain reduction and inflammation response.

Cannabidiol has gained recent interest as a choice of treatment for chronic pain. CBD has had a crucial role in a pharmaceutical product for pain management, called nabiximols. Nabiximols is a combination of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and CBD at a 1:1 ratio. Although it is difficult to attribute the therapeutic properties to CBD alone since it is always administered with THC.

The combination of THC & CBD in nabiximols makes it difficult to recommend CBD solely for chronic pain management but it is certainly a significant development and a step in the right direction.

The studies of CBD pain management conclude that it may also be used in the treatment of migraines & headaches, with additional supporting evidence that may assist in opioid detoxification and weaning of drug use. This could make it a potential weapon in battling the opioid epidemic.
